Well, it seems that Olympic has pussied out on offering odds on this weekend's box office totals. Another one bites the dust.

Why should I, or you for that matter?

In reality, I DID call them last night and they indicated that they weren't sure whether they would post them, but, if they did, they would be posted last night. Well, of course they weren't.

Again, another sportsbook has pussied out.

To be fair...

If I ran a sportsbook... and NEVER made money on a prop... why would I keep posting it. They've been getting naile over and over again on these things. I don't blame Olympic. I would never offer this line... too easy.

If I owned a sportsbook as large, and as succesful as Olympic, and I imposed strict limits (as they do), in order to LIMIT my losses, I would continue to post these props. They make enough money elsewhere to be able to accomodate small players with these props. If only for customer satisfaction, they would be best served to continue posting them. It's almost like a "loss leader" in business. Sometimes you have to lose a little money in order to make alot of it.

I, for one, will tell you that if they stop posting lines on the box office, I'm withdrawing every penny from there. When you consider that they don't offer dime lines in baseball, and now they aren't going to post lines on the box office, they are useless to me as a player.

They might be back after the Hulk, this one is a tough one to put an over/under at. I'm sure they didn't want to post it at 72.5. And they didn't want to get killed on an under that people would be hammering just to try to hit a middle, is my guess. I still want to know who the hell was hammering the under at WSEX, was it you Lakerfan?

And I'm sure they're full of tears at the thought you might pack up your bags and leave them. You probably only bet on the box office... theyd don't make shit from you anyway. Why do they care if you leave. Almost sounds like you're hoping someone from Olympic will read your cry baby spout. Since when does getting nailed on weak lines have anything to do with customer service? Duh!

I am biased, but let me tell you a similiar story that just happened to me. Last weekend I was bombarded with emails looking for the GERMAN fights. I didn't put them up. I got repeated emails. I caved in on Saturday and opened them 500 cents higher on the sides than any euro books and 100 cents higher on 1 total. 10.5 over -300 I believe. They bet me the same sides I had jacked up thru the roof. And still won. Roughly 10k. Sometimes u can't back a guy off a winner. So you either don't put them up or make smaller limits. From this point on, I will absolutely NOT put up any fights I don't feel comfy with. If people wanted to pull their money, more power too them. I would rather lose a customer, than to pay him to be there and beat me. Thats just my opinion and no way reflects OLY's thoughts on any other sport.

Now, I also take this position on the matter b/c of the limits imposed on me by almost every sportsbook out there on boxing. I find it amusing that we can give 5k plus on almost any fight, side or total, and I have to beard into some shops just to get 1k on a fight like gatti-Ward. some spot give me only $500 and then bet it out themselves for more. In any case, good luck with the box office stuff. I just felt this was a good time to state an opinion.

I agree, Joey.

How can anyone cry about a sportsbook not wanting to take a beating on a paticular line they keep losing money on. Doesn't make sense.

I'll answer for him... since he's a pro.

He likes Lewis, but doesn't like the extra weight he's put on. Last time Lewis came in heavier than 250 he got ko'd by Hasim Rahman.

So Lewis should win... but the extra pounds and all smiles at the weigh-in makes this a much more interesting fight.

LOL. I think Gil is reading my emails. I came in loving LL, but then the weigh in got me thinking. I can tell you that everyone has been betting Vitali and Under. I am usually not good in the high volume fights b/c I always think the public opinions are usually wrong, EXCEPT they have been winning in many of the big fights. I think that LL will finish him somewhere bwtn 7 and 10 rds. But like Gil mentioned, the weight is a factor and anything can happen with 2 big punchers. Good luk guys. I just hope its an honest fight w/ both guys giving 100%.

Mr. J/Oddessa; what sportsbook do you operate?
I have read your posts and you obviously are
well informed and intelligent. I am always looking for stable shops to place wagers.

You are right, Gil. I'm not sure what I was thinking. You don't have that much credibility, considering you shill for Intertops at every opportunity you get. Remember that posting about the even/odd number for "From Justin to Kelly"? I'm sure your opinion on this matter means alot to the people of this message board.

areeff, I am not telling you not to shop for the best line you can. Many of us do it, and if it is a legit book that makes a lot of sense. But Pinnacle can offer that line because they can wait and see what other books (Olympic in most cases) put out as an opening number and wait to see what way the lines are bet. Olympic offers hundreds of more boxing bets than Pinnacle. I think looking at their line on one fight does not provide any context.

Find the best price, but don't bash the book that in part allows Pinnacle to put out those prices. Ask Pinnacle to put out a line for a fight 6 months in advance; won't happen.
